The Beginning:

The Black Organizations Council (B.O.C.) of Virginia Tech was founded in 1985. As an umbrella and resource body, B.O.C. serves to ensure the prosperity of the black organizations and community. We aim to uplift the black community by sponsoring programs and offering services which are designed to provide a unified voice for a student population which lacks adequate representation within the university community.

Structure:

As an umbrella organization, B.O.C.'s structure is very different than that of other student organizations. B.O.C.'s membership is made up of other organizations, therefore, students do not have direct voting privileges in B.O.C. Students can always attend our meetings and voice their concerns, but their votes are made during the meeting of their respective organizations. The organizations comprising B.O.C are of a similar nature. Most are classified as special interest groups, and all seek to uplift the black community.
